About Micro-Tissue Engineering Lab: The research in µTE lab focuses on engineering physiologically-relevant micro-scale tissue models for human disease modeling and drug testing applications. We are dedicated to making in vitro cell-based assays more predictive of human pathological conditions and drug responses so as to reduce current reliance on animal testing to advance human health. Our approach is to interface tissue engineering with microtechnologies, such as microfluidics and microarrays to incorporate biological complexity into high throughput quantitative screening platforms.

Description: We are looking for passionate and self-motivated candidates to lead the development microfluidic droplet-based assays for single cell measurement of tissue-specific catalytic functions of human pluripotent stem cell (hPSC) derived cells. The goal of this project is to build innovative technologies and assays that will shed insights into the functional heterogeneity of hPSC-derived cells in various differentiation schemes and how that impact their translation into drug testing applications.

Postdoctoral Fellow on Data Mining



Job Description:

A prospective, longitudinal birth mother-offspring cohort study (Growing Up in Singapore Towards Health Outcomes; GUSTO) study provides a unique opportunity to investigate 1) gene-environment influence on cognitive and brain development; 2) the regulation of epigenetic memory on the development of children's mental health. GUSTO establishes the intense assessment of cognition, emotional, brain imaging, genetics and epigenetics from infancy onwards and environmental measurements, such as maternal mental health, nutrition, social support etc.

We are now seeking researchers who are interested in mining GUSTO data at all levels. We aim to identify new markers characterizing environmental, genetic, and cognitive factors and hence explaining epigenetic markers and children's mental health. The position includes opportunities to apply novel computational models to high-dimensional data sets and develop expertise in 'big data' analysis in neuroscience and to work within a highly multidisciplinary research setting that includes expertise in bioinformatics and biostatistics.

You will assist our Investigators on the project that investigates brain and cognitive development in children as well as their relationship with pre and postnatal growth.  Your job responsibilities include but are not limited to consolidating and analyzing the brain data, and examining hypotheses using statistical tools.

The salary range will be from 2500 ~ 5000 per month.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Learn to analyze structural and functional MRI data using our in-house tools
  • Perform statistical analysis for examining biological hypotheses related to neurodevelopment and neurodevelopmental disorders

 

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor degree or higher in psychology, clinical psychology, cognitive neuroscience, or relevant fields
  • Good writing skill is a must
  • Knowledge of statistical models, such as ANOVA, regression, factor analysis, is required
  • Experience on image analysis will be big plus

Position:

Research Fellow / Research Engineer (Bio-Fluid Mechanics)

Job Description:

The Cardiovascular Biomechanics and Ultrasound Laboratory is looking for highly-motivated individuals with a passion for biomedical research to assist in performing novel research in biomechanics, investigating the fluid mechanics of the fetal/embryonic cardiovascular system (in humans and small animals).

Recent studies have shown that abnormal blood flow forces in the prenatal cardiovascular system may be responsible for congenital defects. Understanding the prenatal blood flow forces in normal and diseased conditions is thus an important endeavour. The candidate will be involved in a project where we perform ultrasound-imaging of both human fetuses and chick embryos, and use these images for patient/subject-specific computational fluid dynamics simulations to obtain detailed flow features in prenatal cardiovascular system. Studies will be performed in both normal and diseased fetuses/embryos to understand how flow may be causing defects. Further, tissues are extracted for whole transcriptomic sequencing to understand the mechanobiology associated with prenatal blood flow mechanics.

On top of working with Dr. Yap on biofluid mechanics, the candidate will work closely with collaborators in the National University Hospital Fetal Maternal Division (Professor Arijit Biswas, Dr. Citra Mattar), collaborator in the National University Hospital Department of Surger (Dr. Winn Maung Maung Aye), and collaborator in the Genomic Institute of Singapore (Professor Roger Foo), and will be able to receive a well-rounded advisory environment for positive career development.

Starting Date: Dec 2015 or earlier.
Salary: Competitive salary package will be offered in accordance to the candidate’s ability and experience level.
Duration: 12 months, with a possibility of renewal (up to 2-3 years) upon satisfactory performance.
