Description

We are looking for a bright, dynamic, and highly motivated individual to perform state-of-the-art research in artificial intelligence with applications to ophthalmology.

For this project the successful candidate will develop and apply deep learning algorithms to 3D images of the eye (captured with optical coherence tomography or OCT). We aim to develop tools:

  1. To improve the diagnosis/prognosis of glaucoma – a major blinding disorder 
  2. To provide a better definition for glaucoma
  3. To de-noise, enhance, and segment 3D OCT images of the eye

The candidate will develop custom convolutional neural networks, generative adversarial networks, and feature learning algorithms.

The candidate will also join our AI team at NUS (OCTAGON:http://www.bioeng.nus.edu.sg/oeil/OCTAGON.html), and will be expected to interact with engineers, computer scientists, and clinician scientists.

This is an exciting multi-centre project in collaboration with the NUS Departments of Biomedical Engineering and Statistics, the Singapore Eye Research Institute, and 15 glaucoma institutes from 10 countries across 4 continents. Note that our project also has the necessary GPU power that is required to handle 3D datasets.

Requirement

  • PhDs in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics or other related disciplines are encouraged to apply
  • Minimum of 2-years experience with deep learning algorithms is required
  • Excellent programming skills in Python and experience with Keras are required
  • No background in ophthalmology is required, however, the candidate will be expected to become knowledgeable in the field of glaucoma in order to interact with clinicians

Additional information

  • Starting Date: 1st April 2018
  • Duration: An initial contract of 12 month will be provided. Upon performance, we have the funds to extend this contract for a total duration of 3 years
  • Salary Range: S$60k to S$85k per year

A Research Associate position in chemometrics analysis for biomedical optical spectroscopy and bioimaging is immediately available.

Requirement

  • Master or PhD degree in one of the following disciplines: chemometrics, computer science/engineering, biomedical engineering or related area (analytical chemistry, informatics, biostatistics, signal processing etc.).
  • Proficiency in biostatics and C++, MATLAB programming and GUI design, and preferably chemometric software development.
  • Skilled in spectroscopic analysis and methods, like Raman, IR, fluorescence.
  • Experience in biophotonics and biomedical Raman spectroscopy is advantageous.

A Postdoctoral Fellow position is immediately available for R&D on in vivo optical biospectroscopy (florescence, and Raman, optical coherence tomography, etc) and bioinstrumentation for endoscopic imaging.

Requirement

  • PhD degree in one of the following disciplines: Optical Engineering, Applied Physics/Biophysics, Biomedical Engineering or equivalent. Hands-on experience in optical instrumentation, biomedical optics and imaging, such as optical spectroscopy, microscopy, optical coherence tomography, and fiber optics and optical design, are preferred.
  • Experience in cell culture and tissue handlings are plus.
  • Proficiency in Biostatistics (e.g., multivariate analysis) and programming using C++, Matlab, Labview are advantageous.

A Postdoctoral fellow position is available immediately for the project which will be involved in the development of near-field optics and super-resolution nonlinear optical microscopy for nano-bioimaging.

Requirement

  • Ph.D. degree in one of the following disciplines: Physical Optics, Applied Optics/Applied Physics; Optical Engineering/instrumentation, Biomedical Optics, Biomedical Engineering or equivalent qualifications.
  • Demonstrated excellence in one or more of the following areas is required: super-resolution microscopy (STED, PALM, STORM, etc), nonlinear optics and microscopy (SRS/CARS, SHG, THG, etc.); fiber-optics and imaging; near-field optics and surface plasmon; tip-enhanced Raman technique, ultrafast laser technique; laser spectroscopy; optoelectronics.
  • Hands-on experience in ultrafast lasers and pulse shaping/spectral focusing are a must.
  • Proficiency in programming using C++, Matlab, Labview is advantageous.
  • Creativity and independence are highly desirable.

Requirement

  • Ph.D. degree in one of the following disciplines: Optical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Electrical and computer engineering, Physical Optics, Applied Optics/Applied Physics; Biomedical Optics, or equivalent qualifications
  • Demonstrated excellence in one or more of the following areas is required: photoacoustic fiberprobe design and fabrication, photoacoustic imager design ; fiber-optics and imaging; ultrafast laser technique; laser spectroscopy; optoelectronics, and 2-D/3D image processing.
  • Hands-on experience in photoacoustic imaging is preferred.

We are seeking highly motivated researchers to perform research on robotics in surgery and productivity. Available immediately, the openings are for several sub-projects related to cognitive robotics, visual servoing, mechatronics and target tracking. The researchers will work with an interdisciplinary team consists of researchers from the NUS Advanced Robotics Center, A-STAR, biomedical scientists and surgeons from National University Hospital and  Singapore Institute for Neurotechnology (SINAPSE).
